Consumer Electronics Show aka. CES is an annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) which held last month at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, United States of America.
People who gathered at the CES 2020 were highly anticipating to see SONY’s new PlayStation 5 gaming console. But the all-electric SONY Vision-S EV prototype left everyone speechless.
SONY only displayed a logo to tease PlayStation 5, but the Vision-S, SONY’s prototype was rolled out onto the stage at end of the company’s presentation surprising everyone. SONY says that they built the Vision-S, only to demonstrate the way its sensors and other technology can be turned to automotive applications.
SONY says that the newly developed EV platform body which was made by a famous automobile manufacturer Magna Steyr would be adaptable to coupe, sedan, and SUV body types. They also made some more collaboration with big names such as Nvidia, Continental, Bosch, ZF, and Qualcomm.
As you can see in the above images, Vision-S gets a huge panoramic dash screen that stretches below the entire windshield which runs on BlackBerry QNX operating system along with gesture control technology. Rear seats will get their own screens which will be mounted on backside of the front head rests with entertainment softwares like Netflix with 5G-enabled network connection.
The huge panoramic includes rear view mirror camers outputs and other segments such as speed and fuel indicators for the driver, the weather or navigation panel and an entertainment screen for the front seat passenger which also features AI, telecommunication and cloud technologies.
Talking about the interior specs, it is powered by two electric motors giving a total of 544 hp which gives power to reach 0-100kph time of 4.8sec, with a top speed of 240kph. It also features SONY’s ‘360 Reality Audio’ speakers built into each seat and also has a full 33 sensors installed, monitoring both the inside and the outside of the vehicle.
As for the exterior specs, it is 4,895 mm long and 1,900 mm wide. It’s just a little bit smaller than a Tesla Model S but weighs almost 2.5 tons. Although it doesn’t have a revolutionary design as it carries some similarities to other EVs. The front-end resembles Porsche Taycan and the back-end resembles Tesla Model 3 because of it’s large windshield and a sleek back.
Looks like we are already living in the future !! isn’t it ?
But Sony isn’t the first tech firm to show interest in the automotive world. Tech giants Apple and Samsung has already evaluated their own autonomous car project.
Even though SONY’s Vision-S prototype looks cool and futuristic, it is uncertain if it will ever make it into production but all its showcased features will surely make their way in our cars soon.
Here’s the video link if haven’t seen the Vision-S concept movie.
