It makes you and your nearby feel great. The ripples of your positivity reflect on your society in overall aspects. But what if being positive is undesirable? COVID-19 struck us very badly. What a bummer! Many countries at first did not give much importance to the now prevailing pandemic.

As Phoebe said, they didn’t even have a ‘PLA’. When nations started the preventive measures, the ship has sailed already. We have witnessed many deaths of our dears within a short span of time. To be tested negative is more than a relief amidst this rotten luck. With proper measures, we can avoid the widespread of the novel Coronavirus and becoming ourselves positive. When I was writing this, I first came up with the title, ‘Being Negative’. But when I finished the article, I felt the discordance between my focused ideas and its title. You will find it intriguing at first but when we move on to the depth you will understand its gravity. If you were about to do blood donation in between this pandemic, you will be subjected to various tests.

Those tests are done on the donors to make sure that they are not affected by the virus, ensuring safety to the recipient/patient. If they find your tests to be positive you are liable to go into self-quarantine and isolation to avoid spreading. In normal cases, people having fever and respiratory symptoms come under suspicion and periodically gets tested while being in a 14-day quarantine. By now, you might have heard various names of the subjected tests through media and press.

    Antigen Test – Rapid Test

Antigen test is a quick test for detecting people who are already infected with the virus. It is not a diagnostic test, only a screening method where we can identify or screen people who need to be tested furthermore. Samples are taken from nose or throat secretions. The test looks for the presence of a type of protein termed as S proteins (the spikes that we see in the pictures). The results are provided in just a few minutes (30 min). But if it is positive, they will have to follow-up with the PCR test. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) approved antigen test kits cost from Rs.450.

There are two types of antibodies. IgM antibodies show up in early stages of infection and an IgM positive person have the ability for spreading the virus to others. However, IgG antibodies are likely to show up in later stages but might not have the spreading capability. It needs to be verified using a PCR test. Results are obtained in 20-30 minutes and costs around Rs.600.

    PCR Test – Diagnostic

RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription – Polymerase Chain Reaction) Test is considered the benchmarked frontline testing for coronavirus. The time taking a test (6-8hrs) is done by obtaining secretions from the nose or throat directly checks the presence of the virus. The tests detect RNA of the virus with the help of the RT-PCR machine in a limited number of samples only. By the process of reverse transcription, the RNA is converted to DNA while detecting the viridae. They are tested twice before confirming. Price ranges from Rs.2500 and above.

How to choose the right shampoo – Tips and Recommendations

    1

How to choose the right shampoo for your hair – Tips and Recommendations – Long, thick, shiny, smooth, straight/wavy hair which magically flies in the air reflecting light and confidence. Remarkably silky smooth that even the comb runs down the length of your hair effortlessly (aka frizz-free and tangle-less) Yep! This is every girls’ dream if you ask me. We love to have the “Sunsilk” hair. In fact, we all love our hair so unconditionally that we condition it frequently for a healthier look.

However, in order to attain the desired outcome, we juggle between hair care products and end up disappointed. Despite spending time, money, and energy, the products we use sometimes fail to deliver the promised outcome. Quite a lot of us, knowingly or unknowingly, ignore the fact that this may not be the product’s fault. It is the wrong choice you have made for your hair. By the thumb rule, any cosmetic product we choose must be based on our skin type. This is applicable to our hair as well. In this article, we are going to explain to you how a shampoo works and how to select the right shampoo for your scalp and hair.

    How does Shampoo work?

Shampoo, particularly liquid shampoos, contains surfactants and water primarily. The surfactants (hydrophilic and lipophilic) help lower the surface tension between oil and water. These compounds form an emulsion of oily dirt on your hair and scalp which can be easily washed off with water. In other words, surfactants fall in love with the oily dirt on your head, take it for a ride in the water and down the drain.

How to select the right shampoo?

    Know your Scalp

    • Normal: Result of healthy, well-maintained lifestyle and haircare. Shiny, supple, smooth, and manageable hair. (In other words, our dream hair and scalp)
    • Dry: Small dry flakes, itchy scalp. (Requires tonnes of oil to moisturize😐)
    • Oily: Overactive sebaceous glands produce excessive sebum or oil.
    • Mixed: A combination of both dry and oily scalp condition with overactive sebaceous glands and dry flaky scalp

    Know your Hair

    • Density: Amount of hair on your head
    • Diameter: Actual width of every hair strand on your head
    • Elasticity: Stretchability of your hair; generally an indicator of your hair health
    • Porosity: Related to the ability of your hair to absorb the moisture content.

Based on the above listed factors, your hair characteristics differs from the ones you see in ads. Hence, you must choose your product based on these factors rather than the respective brand ambassador’s hair.

NOTE: These product recommendations are based on reviews from JAL family and friends. Please make sure to choose the right product accordingly.

    JAL Tips

    • Avoid using moisturizing shampoo for Oily scalps. (None of us prefers excessively greasy hair like the ’90s)
    • Use moisturizing shampoos for dry scalps and hair.
    • Avoid switching between products frequently. It takes time for the results to be visible. However, in case of immediate reactions, discontinue usage ASAP.
    • Less is more: Choose products with lesser harmful content. These are all chemicals after all.

Christopher Nolan : The Ace Filmmaker

    0

Christopher Nolan: The Ace Filmmaker – The whole world is waiting for the release of Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated sci-fi film, Tenet, written and directed by himself. It is said that Nolan took more than five years to write the screenplay. Even after pitching the film’s idea, he put on his thinking cap for a decade.

These are more than enough reasons for the movie geeks for worth waiting. As he keeps exploring the various levels of filmmaking, his works too reflect it. It is this one factor that keeps the audience engaged in the film plot even if they are watching it for the second or third time or maybe even more. Besides, his trend varies throughout all the genres he worked with. And it is undeniable that his cryptic message gets accepted by the audience without any hick. So, what makes Nolan films standout? What are the esoteric elements in making his movies?

    Christopher Nolan

Nolan’s work has been embraced and scrutinized frame by frame even by the critics and film academics. This recites his capability of modeling the idea, the detailing given to it, and the way it is presented. Perhaps, some find it very difficult to follow his way of storytelling, which is intended to serve an enigmatic property to his works. His unconventional methods of narration are itself a great example of it.

Further discussing his oeuvre, shows the impeccable blending of awakening music and crosscutting shots which evokes many thereby totally bashing the viewers’ minds. Thus, spawning it as an intricately crafted piece of art with its own way of the convention. His Dunkirk, an epic war story that spaced out, lacking dialogues were woven with exotic cinematography and a brilliant score. Consequently, by presenting a movie plot out of order has been his trademark of nonlinear storytelling.

    IMAX

Christopher Nolan – The Cue of His Techniques

Primarily, his stories revolve around various aspects of concepts of time, memory, and identity. The technicalities which he implements over his works supersedes many Contempo directors.

With the use of precise details and lighting, his characters reflect their turmoil of emotions exceptionally. Plausibly,  in his films Memento, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight Rises, unveiling some events of the story, which makes no sense at first, tweaks into something, and the suspense lies in how it resulted to such significant events. The Awe Factor! Hence watching a Nolan film doesn’t feel like literally watching any movie, as one should concentrate, reason, think and derive.

    Nolan's techniques

In Memento, the film opens with a scene of the protagonist, Leonard Shelby (portrayed by Guy Pearce) looking at a picture of a dead man. The scene then rewinds where Leonard shot this man and has taken a picture of the corpse. Now it cuts to the beginning of the story, where the scenes switch between colored and black and white throughout. The black and white show different chronological events. Finally, the film ends when both the chronological order as both colored and black and white scenes meets.

Besides the unorthodox storytelling, Nolan deprives the usage of special video effects (VFX) and heavy computer-generated-images (CGIs) in every way possible. Major examples of this are Interstellar and Inception. While the transitions happening in the dream is CGI-ed, the rotating hallway scene was filmed using a massive centrifuge.

It gave the scene a realistic effect. Surely, most of the directors would go for CGI alone. Here comes the Nolan touch to the scene, as he sees it in a big picture. Indeed, the Hypercube scenes (showing multiple dimensions) and the ice planet of Interstellar, remain in eyes of the viewer making it an awesome experience.

    Nolan's movies

    Imprinting Characters in Suitable Plots

Seemingly, Nolan possesses the uncanny trait of establishing characters by bringing out the vivaciousness of his actors. Nevertheless, he prefers shooting on celluloid film with, in-camera effects making him Hollywood auteur and one among the 100 most influential people (according to Time magazine). As we look across his filmography, after all, he deals with science fiction; none of his works are having a repetitive plot. If we look deep into his stories, we may find it very twisty. The placement of cerebral twists has a major role in making an easy ordinary story to the ‘Nolan kind’. The addition of ideas about the fabric of spacetime seems where the Gargantua (Blackhole) depicting itself as an individual character.

    Interstellar

In Interstellar, when Cooper (portrayed by Matthew McConaughey) falls into the black hole, enters the multidimensional phase, where he tries to communicate with Murph years ago. Whereas in Inception, Nolan meddles with the idea of dreaming and consciousness with Cobb (portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio)Memento, entangles with the memory lane of Leonard. The intricate duo Alfred (Christian Bale) and Robert (Hugh Jackman) from Prestige, Will (Al Pacino) and Walter (Robin Williams) in Insomnia show wonders within their plot.

    Nolan: The Reel Dark Knight

    Dark Knight

The Batman in comics was on the top rolling since 1939, a fictional superhero appearing in comic books by DC Comics. The story of the character rebooted several times in reel since the first Batman movie in 1949. Still, Christopher Nolan’s, The Batman Trilogy has created a heroic statuette not only for the Batman series but also for entire Superhero characters in other comic universes.

The portrayal and character development by Nolan made Bruce Wayne (portrayed by Christian Bale) so real that vitalized the entire storyline, making a great opposition to the antagonist, the much-appreciated Joker (played by Heath Ledger). Such a level of personification given for each role collimated into the making of this fabulous masterpiece. Furthermore, the perfectly sculpted perverse Gotham city purely resonated with the need for the unwarranted vigilante.

    Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan has succeeded in all ways, confronting films that make us think inwards and in-depth. His unmatching insights are evident in all his films leaving his own unique signature on it. Clearly, this makes him, and his films occupy the prime spots in modern classic cinemas. The much-awaited upcoming film,  Tenet might also show his upper hand in thriller spy film genre and making it an experience. As he can be referred to one of the modern era godfathers of the cinematic universe. One might find nothing wrong in defining the red-green colorblind maestro’s films as an independent genre, “Nolan’s”.

    Dedicated to the G.O.A.T.

The Kanban Of an Investor – Investing is a Gambit

    0

Investing is a Gambit – Do you have thoughts of starting an investment? If you are, Kudos to that! You are not just an ordinary person. In this world of ‘saving’ and ‘spending’ type of people, be proud that you are about to become an ‘investing’ type. Like how they used to say, “Investing is a plan, not a product”.

Do you remember the epic catacomb gunfight scene from the movie John Wick: Chapter 2? Much before the fight gets started, John (played by Keanu Reeves) goes inside the cave where he places his guns. The guns are kept secretly with proper planning. His firepower and the attack strategies at different locations within the cave is as he foresees the ambush. He plans accordingly that he survives at the end. John starts the shootout with his pistol in possession and reaches his checkpoints, as he falls back. He takes the preplaced guns and continues the fight.

The Kanban Of an Investor – Investing is a Gambit - Just A Library

Firstly, to the ones who ask, “Why do I need investing instead of having savings?”. Savings is a part of your income that you put aside to spend in your future. Nonetheless, investing is like making your hard-earned money and savings work for you by keeping it in financial instruments namely shares, bonds, physical properties, and deposits.

Unlike stagnant money in savings, your money will make money for you, as the investments generate income for you. So before starting the investment one should plan the way, that how your money should work for you.

As earlier mentioned, John kept the guns and ammunition at various places as he had a plan in his mind. His survival depended on the way how he placed (invested) the guns. That is why planning is crucial.

We can have a plan to be:

    • Secure
    • Comfortable
    • Rich
The Kanban Of an Investor – Investing is a Gambit - Just A Library

    Be Secure all the time

Stay Safe! Be Secure. Everyone should have a plan to be secure and that is the backup plan. Have a term Insurance policy (avoid the market-linked insurance plans, ULIPs). ULIP – is a better option for investment although not suitable for the plan to be secure.

Always keep aside some money as an emergency fund (around 2x your monthly income). This should be a solid plan so that you will not have to look back on it at any point of time in future. It ensures financial safety and secureness to your family and dependents if you are the only salaried person. As the chances of unexpected risk are high these days, your plan of living a long life might seem farfetched. If anything happens to you, your family must have a monetary backup for their needs.

This is the major reason most financial experts suggest enrolling in a term insurance plan in the younger age itself. Obviously, the premium will be lesser if joined early. Likewise, the majority of the plans provide lifetime coverage, ease of payments, and tax saving. There are also term life insurance plans by Govt. of India which offers the lowest premium range starting from ₹200.

Term insurance plans are offered by almost all insurance providers. These plans come with a different term period of 10 years to 35 years. Choosing the right policy/insurance plan always seem to be a herculean task, as there is a wide variety of term insurance plans. Do not confuse this with savings. In savings, the rate of inflation is not considered.

ALSO READ – Inflation – Is it Good or Bad?

Hence your money saved will be of lesser value in future. That is how inflation makes us poor. Since this is your backup plan, make sure to choose your insurance policies wisely. As you have a secured plan, let us move on to the masterplan.

    Like Fitness or Bodybuilding

Investing money in any areas for getting better returns always come with risks. You must now decide that if you want to be rich or comfortable, as it is a very important decision that depends on how you proceed.

If you choose to be comfortable, you will need to take only low to medium risk wealth growing options. Like how we do light exercises for maintaining our fitness. If you choose to become rich, it is like building your body. You must lift heavy weights and moderate your diet.

The returns will be greater in such plans, however, the risk will be also higher. To have a stable and comfortable plan is simple but exacting.

If you are salaried personnel, then you can invest in specific shares if you have better tracking of it – mutual funds, systemic investment plans (SIP), or government bonds. You can minimize taxes on your income with 80C (we will discuss this further in another article). Also, having a trustworthy person as your financial advisor can give an advantage over certain funds and maximize your profit. By following this trend, you can have an undeniable peaceful life and a comfortable retirement.

According to the fact, 96% of the people find themselves to be in a comfortable zone. There is nothing wrong about choosing a comfortable life, it is their individual choice. You can have a wonderful life if you follow this plan.

Despite this, you will not be able to achieve a grand luxurious life if you are staying in this comfort zone. For that, you need the master plan, “Plan to be Rich”. How did the richest people in the world become rich? The next article will be dealing with the tips and tricks of becoming rich.

Why Blogging is Essential in Modern-Day Business

    0

    Dive in with team Wryters!

A friendly approach is an ideal quality, so get friendly with “Blogging“. Blog posts are an excellent way to communicate with your targeted audiences, we are living in a digital era and technology has become a part of our daily lives.

With the growth of online startups and small businesses, customers have unlimited options for shopping. Before making a purchase decision, they tend to read reviews, customer testimonials, blog posts to get suggestions to know whether a particular product or service will solve their problem.

This is where your blog posts help you to convert your audience into customers and by building relationships convert them into your loyal customers. Customers connect well with a brand if it has an emotional connect with them. When you educate them through your posts they tend to believe that you may be the one who will be able to solve their problem.

Nobody on the other side of the virtual world would know you or your brand if it weren’t for your website and the updates on it. That’s your face in the market. If the website is only about selling, nobody likes to visit. But if it has something to educate the audiences, well you are on track for growth. Most importantly, Blogs tell people who you are and what you offer.

    How to generate leads?

Yes, the ultimate goal of any businesses is to get customers and earn profit. Blogs posts also help in generation of leads, your customers may not be avid readers but they will use Google for solutions to their problems, once they come across the information they require, they land in your blog. To make customers land in your blog you should be updating your blog frequently.

Should I blog on a daily basis?

When you come up with a new blog every day or week or month, the people know that you are up to something new, and it makes them eagerly wait for your updates. Below you can see the statistics of frequent posting of blogs and their ROI:

Why Blogging is Essential in Modern-Day Business - Just A Library

    Benefits of business blogging

    • Blogging is an inexpensive way for businesses to drive traffic to the site.
    • According to a recent report, nearly 80% of companies that use blogging as a part of their marketing strategy reported acquiring customers through their blogging efforts.
    • Blogging also helps you get discovered via social media. Every time you write a blog post, you’re creating content that people can share on social networks helps expose your business to a new audience that may not know you yet.
    • Well written blogs demonstrate your company as an industry leader. By posting topics that are related to your industry, you showcase your knowledge and your skills which make people think you are a better option to choose for their business.

    Do you have more statistics?

    • Businesses with a consistent blog strategy receive twice much email traffic. More than 55 percent of marketers say they’ve gained new customers just by blogging.
    • Companies that publish at least 16 blog posts per month receive 3.5 times more traffic than those that publish fewer than four blog posts.
    • Blogs also play an immense role in the consumers’ purchase process. Its impact in the early stages, with six out of ten buyers reportedly seeing the value of blog posts at the start of their purchase journey.
    • More than 55 % of marketers list blog content creation as their top inbound marketing strategy. (Hubspot 2020).
    • HubSpot found their blog posts with over 2,500 words earned the most links.
    • Businesses that blog get 55% more website visitors than those who do not use the blog.
    • 70% of people would preferably learn about a company through articles rather than advertisements.

    Facts to grab about blogging!

If you are not using blog posts you are losing customers to your competitors or restricting your growth. Blogging is not a onetime thing or with 3 to 5 blog posts you grow your brand or make a sale. If you don’t have a unique identity to achieve it, along with the content marketing you or your business should have a brand identity (i.e.) Logo in order to build an effective relationship with your audience.

No!!! It should be done over a period of time to stand out, drive traffic to your site, generate leads etc. Your blog is not about you but your customer’s value. If you’re not providing them with appropriate data or prospectus you are taking a different turn from blogging for business and are unlikely to attract traffic or subscribers.

Not all of your customers read blogs, but they all use Google to find answers and information. If your blog has the information they’re looking for, they’ll find that information and discover your brand.

    Conclusion

Blogging is a time-consuming endeavour. If you don’t have the time to dedicate to blogging, you should seriously consider hiring someone to do it for you. Posting blogs means not just writing something about a product or service and posting it and calling out customers. It is more than that. You need to have expertise in writing and proper usage of words is important. It should have emotional connect with your audience

There are millions of blogs getting published on Google. So you need to do a lot of research while writing that blog. You can always outsource this work and get it done.

Business blogging is an essential part of inbound marketing. A business blog is a marketing channel that helps businesses increase visibility online, brand awareness, blog subscribers, and support business growth. Business blogs need a solid promotion strategy to get their content in front of their buyer personas.

Most companies have started adopting this strategy, and big brands are also moving towards content marketing and they focus more on blog posts and articles.Keeping all this in mind a group of young people have come up with an amazing startup called Wryters.inc to find businesses reach new heights in their fields by providing them quality content for blog/ content writing, proofreading and graphic designing.

The World’s Most Secret Bank – The Global Seed Vault

With humanity progressing towards the end of 2020 (a 500 error year 😐), we secretly hope that 2021 would be better. A “Back to Normal” year. At least some of us are currently living our lives expecting that on Jan 1, 2021, magically our lives will start returning to the old normal. But what if it doesn’t? What if 2020 is just the beginning of a new Era? With so many extraordinary things happening around us every second, could this be the beginning of the End of the World? Well, only time will provide the answer to these doubts.

Even if it’s not End of the World, what can we do to protect life as we know it now? How can we ensure the prevention of extinction and restoration of life in the case of worldwide catastrophes? With humans trying to expand their footprint into extraterrestrial areas, how can we assure the perpetuation of life on Earth? Keeping these concerns in mind, our forefathers initiated the practice of preserving life in vaults under subzero temperatures. The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is the largest seed storage facility among these.

Doomsday Vault – What is the Global Seed Vault?

A secure seed bank on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen in the remote Arctic Svalbard archipelago. Officially opened on 26 February 2008, the Svalbard Global Seed Vault is an attempt to ensure against the loss of seeds in other genebanks during large-scale regional or global crises.

Also called the North Pole’s Doomsday Vault, the Norwegian government entirely funded the vault’s approximately 45 million Kr (US$8.8 million in 2008) construction. Storing seeds in the vault is free to end-users; Norway and the Crop Trust pay for operational costs. Primary funding for the Trust comes from organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and from various governments worldwide.

The seeds are stored in vacuum-packed silver packets and test tubes in large boxes that are neatly stacked on floor-to-ceiling shelves. Although they have very little monetary value, these boxes potentially hold the keys to the future of global food security. The storage capacity of the vault in 4 million but as of now,

    Why near the North Pole?

    • Svalbard – The farthest north point accessible to humans via a flight. In other words, limited accessibility.
    • Permafrost – The subzero temperature and the limited oxygen supply ensures reduced metabolism and prolongs aging. In addition, the permafrost surrounding the facility ensures subzero temperatures even in case of power failures (undoubtedly a brilliant idea💡).
    • Environment – The Vault location has the ideal humidity levels for safely preserving the seeds as well as geological stability.
    • Sea Levels – It is well above sea level, protected ocean flooding even in case of sea-level rise.
    • Inside a mountain – This vault was built 150 meters deep into the mountain and more than 100 meters below the ice.

What is EIA? Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation?

What is EIA? Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation?

Nature is a marvellous wonder that inspires us all. It underpins our economy, society, and indeed our very existence. Forests, rivers, and soil provide us with the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and irrigate our crops with. These natural assets are called as the world’s ‘natural capital’. Since nature is free, we often take it for granted and overexploit it. We clear forests, pollute rivers without taking account of the impact this will have. Now, this is one of the key problems faced by our modern world. In order to maintain substantial quality of environment, every country decided to conduct an assessment before approving every project. And thus formed, EIA.

    What is EIA?

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) commonly described as an assessment of the impact of planned activities on the environment, including impacts on biodiversity, vegetation and ecology, water, and air. If done properly, it will not only reduce negative impacts but also help to maintain a substantial environment in the area where the project is being implemented.

EIA was first introduced by the United States of America as one of their environmental policy in the 1960s. Later, it served as a catalyst for many other countries to implement their own policy in the 1970s and early 1980s. India considered the talk of Environment (Protection) Act in 1986 only after the Bhopal gas leak disaster in 1984. However, the first EIA norms came out only in 1994. Later, the EIA draft was replaced by a modified draft in 2006 stating that the new norms will make the “process more transparent and expedient.”

7 key steps of the EIA process (Source-IISD)

    what is EIA

    Step No.1 – Screening

It determines whether the environmental and social impacts of a proposed development project would be significant enough to develop an EIA.

What is EIA? Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation? - Just A Library

    Step No.2 – Scoping

It establishes the boundaries of the EIA, set the basis of the analyses that will be conducted at each stage, describe the project alternatives and consults the affected public.

What is EIA? Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation? - Just A Library

    Step No.3 – Impact Assessment & Mitigation

The team evaluates the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of the planned project and its alternatives, and then identify the mitigation measures to reduce those impacts.

What is EIA? Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation? - Just A Library

    Step No.4 – Impact Management

The team will prepare the plans required for addressing mitigation measures and other project risks, such as technical failures and natural disasters.

What is EIA? Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation? - Just A Library

Step No.5 – The EIA Report

The team will pull together all the research and work done during the previous steps into a structured document. They also ensure that the EIA report contains all the key components.

What is EIA? Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation? - Just A Library

    Step No.6 – Review & Licensing

Designated authorities review the EIA report to determine if the planned project will get a license.

    STEP_7_EIA

    Step No.7 – Monitoring

Ensure that the mitigation measures and contingency plans are properly implemented and effectively address the project’s impacts.

Successfully evaluated projects will get an approval or license to start the project. Hope you are clear with the EIA and its processes now. Let’s get into the EIA 2020 draft now.

Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation?

    1. Post-facto environmental clearance

First and foremost reason is that a company can start the project even without any environmental safeguards or without getting the environment clearances. Shocking isn’t it? This is very dangerous because we already have several projects running without the EIA clearances. Do you remember the styrene gas leak at the LG Polymer Plant in Vishakhapatnam which happened on May 7? It was revealed that the plant had been running for over two decades without the EIA clearances.

    2. No more public consultation process

The new EIA 2020 draft suggests that projects like the widening of national highways, ropeways, public building constructions don’t require public’s approval. The government is claiming that this will help them to expedite the process. This means that the government will not ask your permission to use YOUR land.

    water pollution
What is EIA? Why draft EIA 2020 needs a revaluation?

The draft also says that Category A projects such as Petroleum plants, Chemical manufacturing projects will be moved to Category B1 or B2 which have lesser EIA processes and do not require public consultation.

    3. We can’t raise our voices against violations

The new EIA 2020 norms state that any violations of environmental laws by any project can be reported only by a government authority or by the developer of the project. This means that no normal citizen or any environmental activist group and researchers can’t flag against any violations.

Doesn’t this mean that they are taking Article 21 – the fundamental right from us?

Article 21 guarantees the protection of life and personal liberty to every individual and states that “No person shall be deprived of his life and personal liberty except according to the procedure established by law.”

    ARTICLE 21

    4. More favourable to the corporates

The earlier EIA norms state that every project with the size of 20,000 sq. m or above requires an environment clearance report by the state-level expert committee. Now, this will be applicable only above 150,000 sq. m. This size is more than the area of an airport. The new draft also suggests reducing the number of days from 30 to 20. This is the timeline where the public can raise concerns on a project.

The new EIA 2020 norms also suggest that industries required to submit compliance reports twice a year will be reduced to once a year. Doesn’t this affect the monitoring system?

I really have no answers for the below questions.

    1. Why the government is bringing out this notification in the middle of this pandemic?
    2. Why did the government take down three national environmental support websites that launched digital campaigns and petitions against the new EIA 2020 draft?
    3. How can we take part in the consultation process during a fight between life and death?
    4. What profit is our government going to attain in loosening the EIA forms? To support the corporate giants?
    5. Will this new EIA 2020 norms boost our economy? I don’t think so.

Understanding all this, the Delhi High Court has extended the date till August 11, 2020, for the people to give their suggestions against the new EIA 2020 draft. India is already polluted in every possible way. The gas leaks, fire accidents are clearly telling us that the present EIA norms are not great. Loosening it further will only make it worse. Any changes in EIA norms will have a direct impact on us and the environment. Therefore, it is not only a fundamental right but also our duty to voice out our opposition to the draft at the earliest.

Now is the time to raise our voice. If not, the new EIA 2020 norms will make us shut in future.

Are 100 percent marks 100 percent worthy? – Excellence vs populism

Are 100 percent marks 100 percent worthy? – Excellence vs populism

When I was studying in my 11th class, I came across this news (in fig) and I felt very sad at that moment. But after these many years, I still feel sad but for a different reason altogether. When I was a student I felt sad with the fear of exams and the constant thought running in my brain is how to clear the exam if the question paper is tough. But now I feel sad because I had compromised with my excellence in the subject in the race to get to the top. I scored 94.6 percent in my high school, but one question that I ask myself is, Am I worthy of that number?

Are 100 percent marks 100 percent worthy? - Excellence vs populism - Just A Library
Are 100 percent marks 100 percent worthy? - Excellence vs populism - Just A Library

Some Days back, CBSE released its results and all the news channels and papers were flooded with headlines highlighting the marks scored by various students and most of them are scoring about 95-100 percent.

Definitely, scoring 100 percent in any exam is no small achievement but the question is, The number 100 is the level of excellence or just a mere grade?
Are 100 percent marks 100 percent worthy? - Excellence vs populism - Just A Library

Coming back to my story again, I secured 9.5 CGPA in my B.Tech and I went on to work with a large MNC, where I had to go through a rigorous 3-month training program. The questions I ask myself are, Why am I working in a domain which is completely strange to me? And why am I going through this training? After all, the 16 years of my education didn’t teach me to take up a job?

I don’t find any shortcomings w.r.t the physical infrastructure like Textbooks, Experience and knowledge of teachers etc. CBSE and NCERT have tasked the best brains and hands in the country to decide what is the syllabus?, What extent should a student study? And what not to be studied?. The textbooks are also a great source of knowledge and compatible with any educational system in the world in terms of knowledge. But the real problem lies in evaluation methods.

The one common pattern that can be seen in the CBSE syllabus (subjects like physics, chemistry) the toughest chapters are part of XI class syllabus and relatively easy chapters appear in XII class syllabus. Since the board exams will be held for XII class only, students freely choose not to study the tougher topics deeply which outright results in poor learning outcomes.

The students are becoming habituated to a notion that questions that appear in any board exam essentially come from the list of questions mentioned in the last pages of each chapter. This makes them relaxed w.r.t to knowledge and resort to selective study which again results in poor learning outcomes. I don’t blame students in this aspect because this is the pattern established since ages by examiners in setting question papers. One should understand that the questions given at the back of each chapter are for the student to self assess himself of his understanding of a particular topic and not to directly shoot them in board exams. We can’t even blame Examiners also here.

If parliament is discussing the level of toughness of the board exam papers, then, DAYA, KUCH THO GADBAD HAIN.

Are 100 percent marks 100 percent worthy? - Excellence vs populism - Just A Library

    What are the key takeaways?

    • Students who score high numbers in exams give them false confidence and false insurance for their future. It is sad to say that those who score 90-100 percent marks, don’t actually possess that level of understanding of the subject(there are few who possess exceptional knowledge in the subject). The scores in no length demonstrate the ability of a student to think critically and assimilate concepts. People end up joining various coaching institutes privately to bridge the gaps in their knowledge (otherwise could have learned in their mainstream education) for clearing various entrance exams and employment exams. This effectively wastes the precious time and money of students.

    • As per a report published by Aspiring minds says that 80% of students in India are not fit for jobs. This figures seriously question our system of evaluation with our students. This is making companies organise their own exams and training programs for their new recruits. This is affecting the salaries that employees receive because the company is spending huge amounts on skill development (otherwise could be given in the form of salaries).
    • In India, as per Ministry of Human resources, there are about 47000 foreign nationals studying in India. The big chunk of these students come from Nepal, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Kenya. While our students go to the US, UK, Canada etc.. We hardly find any students from these countries on our university campuses. This clearly indicates there is some problem with respect to our system. The syllabus and curriculum are one and the same across the globe. What matters is the Evaluation system and Research environment which is very poor in India currently and thus our universities fail to attract students from the US or Europe. India once stood as a great learning centre with Nalanda, Vikramashila and vallabhi. People from China, Mesopotamia, Italy and ASEAN countries used to flock to these universities to study. We can definitely bring the same charm to present day universities of ours.

    Conclusion

If a student is complaining about the toughness of one exam and at the same time is ready to take some of the toughest exams in the world like JEE, CAT, UPSC etc.. then the problem doesn’t lie in the attitude of the student but lies in the environment of the system of evaluation. Populism can never build excellence. Excellence can be only achieved only when we build critical thought and fruitful learning outcomes. Without excellence, I fear we only remain as an importer of technology and exporter of talent.

Parasite Movie Review – Is Parasite Movie Good?

    5

Parasite Movie ReviewIs the movie Parasite OVERRATED? Are you someone who watched Parasite after hearing about it stealing all the awards at the Oscars? Or did you get peer pressured into watching it after the endless updates on the ‘gram by your friends? I bet, some watched it after Vijay-Na fans started bashing it for copying the story from “Minsara Kanna” (Whatever happened to the lawsuit on the producers though?). Or were you smart enough to wait it out and watch it on Prime? Okay, whenever you watched it if you thought to yourself “Um, Did I just miss something or is it overrated?” we’d like to assure you that you didn’t miss anything out and we’re gonna validate that claim!

Parasite Movie ReviewDid it really win 4 Oscars!?

Parasite made history, by being the first foreign-language film to win the “Best Picture”, along with 3 other awards for “Best Direction”, “Best Original Screenplay” and “Best Foreign Film”.

We have little to no doubt that it deserved the Foreign film category, but Best Picture? Believe it or not, it overtook some gems like “1917” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. Times like these make you wonder if they won due to “Asian” inclusion in the “diversity” plan of the Academy Awards. I’m sure there are at least a hundred better Asian movies! Let’s compare this to A.R. Rahman winning Oscars for “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire. No doubt that was a good song, but, have these people heard his work from Jodha Akbar or Kandukonden Kandukonden or Roja

    PlotHoles

    • Are Rich people dumb or is it just the Parks?

They literally hired 4 people they just met, to work in their home, with their children, with absolutely no background checks! They even got them to fire the staff that’s been working with them for decades! Also, they randomly smell Mr.Kim in their living room one night! And the teen daughter hears Ki-Woo’s notification tone! And NOTHING!? I was just waiting to check at what point their brains would start working and connect the dots!

    • Nicest Looking Poor Kims

Throughout the movie, the Kims have been shown as poor people, living in a small and suffocating house, with uneducated parents and no proper access to the internet and not being able to afford a bug spray. Surprisingly, they were just as good looking and well dressed as the Parks. They were so well-groomed in the nice clothes they own and their on-point salon hair, and subtle makeup on their almost flawless skin! We understand they were trying to blend in, but umm, where did the money come from?

    • Faulty CCTVs

In the movie, where Kim Ki-Taek tries to escape right after committing cold-blooded murder, runs away from the house onto the road, and then “Vanishes into thin air” until the suspense was broken at the very end of the movie. We clearly see a CCTV stationed at the neighbor’s house with the perfect angle to capture him walking back into the garage. So, where did that footage go? Or was it conveniently faulty?

    • Meaning of  “Parasite”

According to Google, a parasite is an organism that lives in or on an organism of another species (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients and ends up harming the host. Isn’t this exactly what happened in the movie? Then why justify the actions and murders of Kims by calling it as the wrath of the divide between classes? The Kims conned an innocent family and enter into their home. They take away the jobs AND LIVES of other innocent poor people (Now it’s conveniently “Survival instinct” and no more “Social Divide” isn’t it?)

Why do the makers get us to root for the Kims, when all they’ve done is harm others? In my opinion, portrayal or stereotyping rich people to be snooty and highly intolerant, and having them murdered for not being able to tolerate foul odour, will only further widen the so-called “Class – Divide”.

    Hidden Meanings

Speaking of how people interpreted Class-Division to be reason enough to go around killing, there are some people that could point to a metaphor in every small little object shown in the background. After hearing “If you didn’t understand what the stone that Ki-Woo carries with him means, then you didn’t understand what the movie meant!” I decided to watch some decoding videos which had 1M+ views (Thank you, 1M people, for making me feel not alone).

One YouTuber said, the stone is so significant because it represents Ki-Woo himself, while another said, the stone is the actual ‘Parasite’ of the movie. Another bizarre theory I heard was how the ‘smell’ of the poor people(which surprisingly only Mr.Kim had) was guilt that somehow never left him for cheating his owners (Can Guilt of cheating someone also makes you kill them?)

Parasite Movie Review - Is Parasite Movie Good? - Just A Library

And, we seriously need to make a poll to know people’s interpretation of the ending, just to know how many people didn’t understand, Ki-Woo actually didn’t get rich and buy the house!! Sorry if you were believing this version, until now!

Now, all this being discussed, there’s no doubt that Parasite is technically brilliant and seamlessly edited and directed! It definitely deserves the awards it has gotten for direction and screenplay, but it wasn’t quite the groundbreaking cinematic experience you’d expect after hearing rave reviews. So yes, it’s a bit overrated.
